Indulgence is synonymous with the holidays, but seasonal celebrations can often lead to excess. “Any time people don’t have to worry about their day-to-day responsibilities, they tend to drink more,” says Frankie Jones, the head bartender at Washington, D.C.’s Occidental Grill & Seafood.

Combine vacation days with shopping, travel and increased time with family and co-workers, and “people start drinking to ease stress, and it’s really easy for them to over-imbibe,” says Lindsey Scheer, the bar manager at Heritage in Richmond.
