PILATES BACKGROUND
Laura was introduced to Pilates in 2003, when her mother took her to a class at her hometown YMCA. She quickly fell in love with the method: the fluid choreography, the core strength, the mental focus, and its applicability for all bodies and abilities.
While she began Pilates as a casual gym-goer, Laura eventually became more serious about her practice when she discovered how much it helped her running form and speed. Once a middle-of-the-pack runner, she is now age group competitive and a Boston Marathon qualifier. She credits her running accomplishments to the strengthening, form, and alignment her Pilates training has given her.
Laura finished her 700+ hour classical Pilates teacher certification with Urban Body Studios in 2012, studying with second generation teacher Penelope Wyer-Barrow. She has completed additional training with master teachers Saul Choza, Blossom Leilani Crawford, Chris Robinson, Kathi Ross-Nash, Dana Santi, Brooke Siler, Mejo Wiggin, and Mari Winsor and is a member of the Authentic Pilates Union.
Laura enjoys working with endurance athletes on improving form and efficiency, increasing core strength, and preventing and recovering from injuries, but also loves working with anyone who has an interest in improving posture, balance, strength, and flexibility. Her teaching style is energetic, approachable, hands-on, physical, fluid, and fun.
In 2015, Laura added both TRXⓇ Suspension Training and TRXⓇ Group Training certifications to her teaching portfolio and believes the TRXⓇ system of body weight and core-focused movement combined with HIIT training perfectly complement a Pilates practice.
In addition to in-home private sessions and virtual workouts, Laura is a sought-after group and corporate wellness instructor, having led sessions for Big Peach Running Company, Interface Flooring Systems, Pinterest, and Tales of the Cocktail.
